A political party is an organization that coordinates candidates to compete in a particular country's elections. The main body governing the registering of political parties in India is the Election Commission of India (ECI). Registration of political parties is governed by the provisions of section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. It is common for the members of a party to hold similar ideas about politics, and parties y promote specific ideological or policy goals. A party seeking registration under the said section with the Commission has to apply to the Commission within 30 days following the date of its formation.
